Please don’t be disheartened if your dog is diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Through efforts to boost the immune system, it is possible to improve their condition, maintain their QOL (quality of life), and help them regain their energy and appetite. In fact, there have been numerous cases where dogs’ cancers were controlled through immune measures taken with Cordy.

This page includes information on the causes, symptoms, and treatments of ovarian cancer, as well as tips for improvement and recovery. We also introduce many cases of improvement. We hope that this can serve as a source of support and a ray of hope for you.

What is Ovarian Tumor in Dogs?

Characteristics and Causes of Ovarian Cancer in Dogs

Ovaries are female-specific organs responsible for maturing and releasing eggs, as well as secreting hormones. There are two ovaries located on either side of the uterus. One of the causes of cancer originating from the ovaries is ovulation. Repeated ovulation can damage the surface of the ovaries, and it is believed that the accumulation of this damage can lead to cancerous developments.

Because the ovaries are located deep within the body, symptoms are often not noticeable. Normally, ovaries are the size of peas, but tumors can enlarge them to the size of a golf ball, and in some cases, even a baseball. When this happens, internal organs may be compressed, causing pain and making it difficult for food to enter the stomach.

Due to the lack of symptoms, detection is often delayed. By the time it is discovered, the cancer may have already spread around the ovaries or metastasized to distant locations.

Treatment of Ovarian Cancer in Dogs

Since ovaries are not vital organs, surgical removal is typically performed. The opposite ovary and uterus are also removed to reduce the risk of recurrence.

The danger of ovarian cancer lies in its subtle symptoms, which often lead to delayed detection. Even if both ovaries and the uterus are removed, it is not uncommon for cancer cells to have spread further.

Post-surgery, chemotherapy (cancer treatment drugs) may be added to target any remaining cancer cells. Powerful chemotherapy drugs are usually used for ovarian cancer, potentially leading to significant side effects.

Prognosis of Ovarian Cancer in Dogs

If the cancer can be completely removed, the prognosis is generally positive. However, in many cases, cancer cells have already spread widely, leaving residual tumors that could lead to recurrence. Although chemotherapy is sometimes used post-surgery to reduce recurrence rates, eliminating all remaining cancer cells is considered challenging.

Since surgery is a significant undertaking, efforts should be made to prevent recurrence. The stress of surgery and side effects of chemotherapy can lower the immune system, which necessitates countermeasures. Alongside immune measures, providing high-quality food is important for quickly restoring strength.

Preventive Measures for Ovarian Cancer in Dogs

Ovarian cancer can be prevented via spaying. Spaying involves removing the ovaries and the uterus, thereby eliminating the risk of future ovarian cancer.

While some may hesitate to perform surgery on a healthy dog, the benefits of spaying are substantial. If you do not intend to breed your dog, it’s worth considering.

Immune Measures are Crucial for Improving Ovarian Cancer

If your dog is diagnosed with ovarian cancer, taking immune measures is crucial regardless of whether you opt for surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy.

At the Cordy Lab, we research how Cordy works on immunity. While the extent of the response cannot be guaranteed, there is a good chance that at the very least, your dog will regain their appetite and energy.

Furthermore, when advised to use chemotherapy, steroids, or antibiotics for ovarian cancer treatment, it is vital to provide proper liver care. Combining Cordy with domestically-produced SPF pig-derived placenta extraction powder can help improve liver function.
Further, since melanoma is often accompanied by severe inflammation, administering krill oil extracted from Antarctic krill containing EPA/DHA, which is expected to have anti-inflammatory effects, may also be effective.

Our laboratory continues to research Cordy, which is expected to have immunomodulatory effects; domestic SPF pig-derived placental extract powder, which is expected to support liver function; and krill oil, which is expected to have anti-inflammatory effects.
