Overcoming Malignant Apocrine Gland Tumor!!

Information Provided By: Mika Shibue (Owner)

Species: Dog, Chihuahua
Gender: Male, Kuu-chan
Date of Birth: January 30, 2011 (13 years and 3 months old)
Weight: 3.4 kg (as of May 27, 2024)
Condition: Malignant Apocrine Gland Tumor

Progress and Current Condition

On January 30, 2022, surgery was performed on his birthday. The attending hospital had already notified us that there was a high possibility of metastasis and that the future outlook was uncertain.
In this desperate situation, I searched for ways to ensure he could live each day as pain-free and comfortably as possible and came across Cordy.

After about 3 to 4 months of using Cordy, he seemed to be more energetic than before.
His weight remained stable, his appetite did not decrease, and a dog who used to sleep most of the time started bringing toys and asking to go for walks.

According to the veterinarian, the malignant tumor appears to have been overcome. Although a new growth appeared, it was not identified as a tumor.

Cordy is administered with approximately 1.5 spoons (about 1.5g) divided into 4 to 5 doses.
Now, he is enjoying his daily life with his owner!

The hospital recommended using Sendan Alpha.

Diet
Dry food, sweet potato, chicken breast, pumpkin, etc.

At our laboratory, we are researching whether Cordy can modulate the immune system, maintain or improve the quality of life (QOL), and have an effect on cancer. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Pet Information Name: Ariel-chan Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Gender: ♀ (Not spayed)

Pet Information

Name: Ariel-chan
Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Gender: (Not spayed)
Weight: 5.6 kg (as of June 2019)
Date of Birth: April 23, 2004
Condition: Lymphoma

Condition and Current Status

2014

At that time, 10 years old.
A fist-sized tumor was discovered in the neck area, and the attending animal hospital predicted a one-month life expectancy.
While searching for other treatments, we came across Cordy and began combining it with the medication prescribed by the hospital.

After using Cordy for a month, pus was discharged from the tumor, resulting in a complete cure.
It turned out to be benign, much to the surprise of the attending veterinarian.

Even after recovery, Cordy is administered daily with morning and evening meals, approximately a three-quarter spoonful.
When Ariel’s condition is not good, one full spoonful (about 1g) is given, and it seems to help maintain her health.

2015

Due to periodontal disease, all teeth except one were extracted in surgery.

2016

Started using heart disease medication.
However, considering her age, the symptoms were mild, and the medication dosage was small.

Note: Cavaliers are known to be prone to heart disease, with data indicating that 60% of individuals develop heart conditions by the age of 4.
Owners of Cavaliers are advised to have regular heart check-ups.

2019

Age: 15 years old.
While there is noticeable weakening in the hind legs, walks are still twice a day.
She seems more lively during walks, her coat is in good condition, and people are often surprised to hear her age.

Diet and Supplements

Diet

Orijen Tundra, given three times a day.
As sudden weight changes can be stressful for dogs with heart disease, it is noted that she is generally not given treats.

* According to a large-scale survey conducted by the University of California, Davis, it has come to light that some dogs suffering from DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy) due to taurine deficiency were being fed foods from the Orijen brand.

This seems to be more prevalent among large dogs, especially Golden Retrievers, who are fed grain-free foods that are high in peas. However, it’s also important to note that large dogs are generally more prone to taurine deficiency.
The investigation is still ongoing, but the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) has also become involved in the inquiry (https://bit.ly/2uyyHlC), so it might be best to be cautious when selecting food.

At this stage, some points that have become clear include:

– ACANA
– Blue Buffalo
– Natural Balance
– Purina Pro Plan
– Solid Gold
– Wellness
– Fromm
– Honest Kitchen
– Kirkland Nature’s Domain
– Now

These brands have been noted to show taurine deficiency.

Supplements

【Otaka Enzyme】
Started administration three years ago. Administered 10 ml with meals.

【New Biofermin S (for humans)】
Recently started additional administration due to the occurrence of soft stools.

A Word from Our Company

Even though it was a benign lymphoma, the recovery from a tumor the size of a fist in the throat is truly remarkable. The Cordyceps (Cordy) matched the body’s constitution, allowing the immune system to stabilize smoothly, not only overcoming the tumor but also enabling a healthy daily life now. Additionally, providing a diet that is properly “high-protein” has prevented muscle atrophy, further increasing vitality through the enjoyment of walks.

The four-year-old cat (Maria-chan) living in the same household has been given Cordyceps since she was a kitten, which can help prevent common viral diseases in cats.

The average lifespan of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is said to be 9-15 years, but I believe Ariel-chan will continue to live healthily and peacefully for many more years (hopefully aiming for 20 years!!). For the care of senior pets, please consider incorporating supplements and reviewing their diet.

At our laboratory, we are researching whether administering Cordyceps can modulate immunity and have potential anti-cancer effects.

Name: Mame-chan
Breed: Chihuahua
Age: 10 years old (at the first consultation)
Weight: 3 kg
Condition: Oral Melanoma

Consultation Details and Progress

April 13, 2018

Due to a different than usual odor from the mouth, visited the regular veterinary hospital.
Observed some suspicious lesions and conducted a biopsy and palliative surgery on the 15th, which was submitted for pathological examination.
On the 20th, diagnosed with melanoma and given a prognosis of 4 months. Reached out to our company in hopes of finding potential treatments.
The photo shows Mame-chan a week before the melanoma diagnosis.

April 23

Started taking Cordycep supplement.

April 26

Referred by the regular vet to Yamaguchi University on the 26th, with no metastasis found at this stage.

May 11

Started weekly radiation therapy.
After the first radiation treatment, noted a decrease in energy and appetite as a side effect.

May 18

In addition to weekly radiation therapy, started monthly chemotherapy.
Noticed mild vomiting after the treatment, which subsided in about 2-3 days.

End of May

Started treatment at Omnia Natural Therapy Clinic (includes acupuncture, massage, dog scan, etc.).
The image shows Mame-chan receiving a massage from the doctor.

June 22

Second chemotherapy.
Experienced a 10-day loss of appetite and fever (above 40°C) as side effects.
Due to consistent use of Cordycep supplement, traditional Chinese medicine, and daily subcutaneous fluids, Mame-chan’s appetite gradually recovered from mid-July. Given the severe side effects from chemotherapy, further chemotherapy was discontinued, and homemade meals were started around this time.

The image shows Mame-chan with a heat therapy device used at home.
Shao’s Heat Therapy Device (Shaoshi Onkyuki) is a type of moxibustion tool that is less likely to get hot and produces less smoke than traditional moxa sticks, making it easy to use at home.

August

CT scan at Yamaguchi University; no signs of metastasis.

October to November

Started incorporating medicinal cuisine into homemade meals.

November

Upon check-up at Yamaguchi University, observed recurrence in the mouth area. Conducted three rounds of radiation therapy in December.
No side effects; energy and appetite stable. Noticed improvement in hair loss caused by previous radiation and chemotherapy between November and December.

The photo was taken when hair loss had occurred. Due to the effects of radiation, redness and hair loss can be seen on the neck.

February 14, 2019

A check-up at Yamaguchi University showed no metastasis, and it was diagnosed as the best condition so far in the course of the illness. The pet is more energetic than before the illness, and even the owners who bring them for consultation are amazed at how energetically they run around, to the point where they wonder where the illness is.

On February 19, we were able to celebrate the 11th birthday.

Current treatments

– Cordyceps
– Organic Germanium
– Acupuncture, moxibustion, massage
– Dog scan
– Chinese medicine (kampo)
– Medicinal cuisine

A Word from Us

Oral melanoma in dogs is a very aggressive and rapidly progressing cancer, and it is not uncommon for it to be deemed beyond treatment at veterinary hospitals. In Mame-chan’s case, strong side effects emerged from aggressive treatments, prompting a switch to alternative therapies, including traditional Chinese medicine, and home care. As a result, it seems that a fundamental recovery in her health was achieved, allowing her to continue living calmly.

Currently, through the use of alternative therapies and supplements, many pets are able to spend the remainder of their lives peacefully. Even if aggressive cancer treatments like chemotherapy are pursued, the use of Cordyceps can be expected to reduce side effects. Moreover, in cases where strong side effects prevent the continuation of treatment, using Cordyceps can help manage immunity internally, coexist with tumors, and improve QOL (Quality of Life) by restoring energy and appetite.

Intensive treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy may lower immunity, so it is important to restore immune function as soon as possible to suppress any remaining tumor cells. Using an increased amount of Cordyceps before and after surgery or during intensive treatments is thought to speed up post-surgical recovery, and studies on the right dosage are ongoing.

We would like to introduce a case report from a veterinarian regarding a senior Beagle dog with oral

We would like to introduce a case report from a veterinarian regarding a senior Beagle dog with oral melanoma that has been long-term controlled without the use of chemotherapy, using a product called Cordy.

Handling Oral Melanoma in Dogs and Cats

What is Oral Melanoma in Dogs and Cats?

Oral melanoma in dogs and cats is a highly malignant tumor characterized by high recurrence rates even after surgical removal. Since chemotherapy has limited efficacy, the prognosis is generally poor.

However, if the immune cells can function properly, it is expected that the growth of the tumor can be inhibited.

In this case, we received a report that a Beagle dog with oral melanoma has been controlling the condition over a long period by using Cordy. We would like to share this case report.

Details on Dog Melanoma are explained here. Please check it out as well.

Controlling Melanoma with Cordy

Information provided by: Pet House Kizuna Animal Hospital
3-1-8 Hannancho, Abeno Ward, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture

【Oral Melanoma: Surgical Removal and Use of Cordy】
Breed: Beagle
Gender: Neutered Male
Age: Born May 7, 2001 (16 years old as of July 2017)
Cordy Usage Period: Since Summer 2015

Treatment Progress

On April 6, 2015, a 5×4×3 mm mass was discovered on the right lower lip and was surgically removed on the 15th of the same month. Pathology confirmed it to be malignant melanoma.
From around summer, Cordy (0.4g/kg/day) usage was started, along with Antinol, and the dog’s diet included Gastrointestinal Assist.
On May 12, 2016, a mass reappeared in the same area, and multiple masses were removed simultaneously. The histopathological diagnosis for the lip lesion was again malignant melanoma.
On October 21, a 3mm black spot was found in the same area. It was monitored with Cordy only, without further surgery (Photo ①).

【Photo ①】

On June 9, 2017, the mass reappeared in the same area and was surgically removed. Pathology confirmed it to be malignant melanoma again. Despite not administering aggressive treatments like chemotherapy, the condition has been managed solely with Cordy (Photo ②).

【Photo ②】
Before surgery

After surgery

Due to the dog’s advanced age and the fact that melanoma is highly resistant to chemotherapy, the Beagle dog has been treated with Cordy without the use of chemotherapy. This has allowed long-term control of the condition, much to the delight of the owner.

【A Word from the Research Lab】
### Oral Melanoma in Dogs

**Oral melanoma in dogs** is an extremely aggressive and rapidly progressing cancer. Many animal hospitals may give up on treatment, but in the case of this dog, despite its advanced age, it has successfully undergone two surgeries.

Post-surgery, there are concerns about a decrease in immunity, so it’s crucial to restore immune function as soon as possible and suppress any remaining tumor cells in the body. By increasing the dosage of Cordy before and after surgery, faster recovery than usual can be expected.

—

At our research laboratory, we are investigating whether the administration of Cordy can modulate the immune system and have therapeutic effects against cancer. If you have any questions, please contact us.

We would like to introduce a case report from a veterinarian where the administration of Cordy resulted in the disappearance of metastatic thyroid cancer in a dog’s lungs.

Case Study: Thyroid Cancer with Lung Metastasis in Dogs

What is Thyroid Cancer?

Thyroid tumors occur in less than 2% of all canine tumors, making them quite rare. However, many are malignant thyroid cancers prone to lymph node metastasis.

Furthermore, it has been reported that dogs with hypothyroidism are at higher risk of developing thyroid cancer.

Thyroid masses can occur unilaterally or bilaterally. The main symptoms may include coughing, difficulty swallowing food, and rapid breathing.

Managing the Condition with Cordy

We have received a report that cancer metastasized to the lungs was controlled with the administration of Cordy.

Information provided by: Blueminton Animal Hospital (Suginami-ku, Tokyo)

Case Details

Miniature Dachshund, 15 years old, male, weight 4.74–5.46 kg (when in good condition, over 5 kg)

Treatment Commencement: January 6, 2015

On January 6, 2015, the dog presented with a lack of appetite, and a tumor in the lungs was already confirmed at that time. Considering the dog’s age and physical condition, aggressive treatment was not chosen, and administration of Cordy was started. Soon after, the dog’s energy and appetite improved.

On February 22, 2015, a week’s worth of Cordy was prescribed after a visit. The dog did not return for further visits as the condition improved.

June 20, 2015

The dog presented with significant coughing and lack of appetite. X-rays showed that some masses (metastases) had reduced in size compared to January. At this time, only homeopathic remedies were prescribed, and Cordy was not given.

The dog visited again in August 2015 due to dislocation of the tarsal joint. Appetite was reported to be good, and there were no visits after September.

June 18, 2016

Weight: 4.74 kg
Appetite is gradually improving.
Cough persists, but activity is getting better.
Breathing appears easier compared to last visit, even at the hospital.
Concurrent medications: Ninjin-eiyoto, Immuni SF 1 packet/day

June 25, 2016

Weight: 5.26 kg
Appetite has increased and is close to normal.
Cough persists, but breathing is easier than last week.
Unable to finish the full dose of Immuni SF, estimated to be taking about one packet per week.

July 10, 2016: One Month After Treatment Initiation

Weight: 5.46 kg
Energy and appetite present, cough persists but is reducing.
X-ray confirms reduction of lung mass (metastasis).
Managed to consume half a packet of Immuni SF.

Consider Natural and Alternative Therapies

At the Bloomington Animal Hospital, we have recognized the limitations and dissatisfaction with modern Western medicine, which often relies solely on surgery and medications. Rather than adhering to a predetermined treatment protocol based on the illness, we aim to provide holistic medical care that considers the entire body. Our goal is to deliver effective treatments with minimal side effects and to help build a body that resists illness. Thus, we have implemented alternative therapies.

Cordy is actively used in our treatments.

For those interested in natural or alternative therapies, we encourage you to seek a consultation.
-->

Immune Modulating Functions Expected from Cordy

Taking measures to bolster the immune system is very important. Cordy does this without burdening the body.

Our lab is researching whether administering Cordy can modulate the immune system, stabilize quality of life, improve overall health trends, and hold potential effectiveness against cancer.

Melanoma is an extremely malignant tumor with a high recurrence rate even after surgery. However, we have received case reports from veterinarians indicating that it can be controlled long-term without surgery through the use of Cordy, and we would like to share this information.

Case of Oral Melanoma (Labrador Retriever)

Overview of Treatment Progress

Oral melanoma is highly malignant and has a high recurrence rate even after surgery. It is commonly found in Retrievers, and chemotherapy is mostly ineffective, resulting in a poor prognosis. This particular case also involves a Labrador Retriever with oral melanoma.

Considering the background and the owner’s wish not to remove the lower jaw, a non-surgical treatment plan was developed. The tumor was ablated with a hyperthermia device, combined with lupeol, dendritic cell therapy, and supplements, allowing long-term control of the condition.

Information provided by: Kamo Animal Hospital (Higashi-Hiroshima City)

About Oral Melanoma

Oral melanoma often progresses rapidly, and conventional cancer treatments result in a poor prognosis. Surgical excision as a curative treatment is highly invasive and often results in significant aesthetic changes due to the loss of part or most of the jaw.

When only the tumor is removed as a palliative surgery, the recurrence rate is very high. Although there is information that radiation is effective, it often provides only temporary control.

Chemotherapy does not yield good responses and the side effects can outweigh the benefits of treatment.

When chemotherapy is recommended, please read the following article first.

About Chemotherapy for Dogs and Cats – Side Effects, Precautions, etc.

Initiatives of Kamo Animal Hospital

Dr. Ito from Kamo Animal Hospital (Higashi-Hiroshima City) reports cases of treating oral melanoma with alternative therapies.

Unlike conventional cancer treatments, alternative therapies have the distinct advantage of placing minimal burden on the animal. This allows for multiple alternative therapies to be carried out concomitantly, enabling the design of highly flexible treatment plans tailored to individual cases.

Since cancer is common in elderly dogs, treatments that minimize physical stress are desirable. Attention is increasingly being directed towards alternative therapies as a substitute for major surgeries and conventional chemotherapy.

This case of oral melanoma demonstrates excellent results through the following aggressive treatments with multiple alternative therapies, comparable to conventional excisional surgeries:

Dendritic Cell Therapy

Hyperthermia Therapy (Ablation)

Lupeol

Cordy

We received a case report about a Papillon dog with a terminal self-destructive mammary tumor that was completely cleared after being administered Cordy. Along with oral administration of Cordy, the self-destructive part of the mammary tumor was sprayed with Cordy dissolved in water. Liquid-cultured Cordy can be directly used as a spray. Using Cordy in combination might help maintain QOL (quality of life) without putting stress on the body.

Providing information to support your pet’s health>>

An Example of Tumor Reduction in Dogs Using Cordy

What is a Mammary Tumor?

Malignant mammary tumors (hereafter, mammary tumors) in dogs and cats are highly recurrent and exceptionally “malignant” cancers. Even if surgically removed, there is a high possibility of recurrence, so surgery does not necessarily mean peace of mind.

Despite being a malignant mammary tumor, combining treatment with Cordy might allow pets to maintain their QOL (quality of life).

Treatment Methods for Mammary Tumors

The mammary tumor was treated with high-dose vitamin C drip therapy and Cordy.

No excision surgery or chemotherapy was performed. Due to the terminal stage, the patient’s condition was very poor, and a treatment plan with minimal damage was devised.

As a surgical procedure, the tumor, which had a modified shape, was tied with a string and was slowly let to fall off. The treatment proved effective, and the pet regained its health, completely controlling the mammary tumor.

Provider: Kamo Animal Hospital (Higashihiroshima)
Combined Treatment: High-dose Vitamin C Drip Therapy

Providing information to support your pet’s health>>

Treatment Progress

Before Starting the Treatment

Papillon, 15 years old, female. The largest tumor was 4.35 cm x 3.71 cm and was self-destructively bleeding. Anemia had appeared due to bleeding. The pet had poor appetite and overall poor condition.

Due to advanced age and poor overall condition, surgery, general anesthesia, and chemotherapy were avoided.

A treatment plan was developed using high-dose vitamin C drip and Cordy. Cordy was administered both orally and sprayed on the affected area. Dosage was 20ml/day.

Image Explanation
The left side of the photo is the head, and the right side is the tail. There are eight nipples, and three tumors. One of the tumors is completely cracked open.

One Week After Starting Treatment

In just one week, tumor reduction was observed. The areas shrank to 58-68% of their original size. Although the height was not measured, Dr. Ito commented that “it looks like it’s becoming flat.” If considered in terms of volume, there was a significant reduction in a short period.

There was also a notable color change in some parts of the tumor, indicating improved blood circulation.

The pet’s condition rapidly improved. At the beginning of the treatment, the pet’s condition was too poor to consume a full dose of Cordy, but after a few days, it was able to consume it. High-dose vitamin C drip was fully administered.

Two Weeks After Starting Treatment

The tumor has not been sutured, but the self-destructing area has started to heal.

The recovery of the pet’s condition is progressing smoothly, and there is a sense of having passed the critical phase.
The blackening of the fur around the affected area is due to blood staining and the application of Cordy’s spray.

Three Weeks After the Start of Treatment

The largest tumor has turned bright red. While the area has expanded, the height has decreased. There is no bleeding, and the situation is not bad.
The shape has changed, and the base has become narrower. It also looks like the normal tissue and the tumor are separating. Dr. Ito describes this shape as “cauliflower-like.”

At Dr. Ito’s suggestion, we decided to tie a string around the base of the “cauliflower” to allow the lesion to detach naturally. It can be done without anesthesia, so it is safe.

The other two tumors seem stable, so we’ll continue to monitor them.

Four Weeks After the Start of Treatment

As predicted, the tumor with the string around its base naturally detached. It took 10 days for it to detach. After detachment, there was bleeding from a large nutrient blood vessel, which was stopped using laser treatment.

We decided not to suture the severed area and treated it only with Cordy’s liquid spray. Dr. Ito predicts that it will heal nicely in three weeks.

Five Weeks After the Start of Treatment

The wound from where the lesion detached healed quickly. It is unclear whether any cancer cells remain, but the skin covering the area looks healthy.

The area of the other tumors is gradually expanding. They are smaller than they were before the treatment began, with an area ratio of 45.9% to 63.7%. According to Dr. Ito’s comments, “The remaining tumors also seem to be developing a cauliflower-like shape.”

Expecting a reduction in cancer cells, we reduced the daily oral dose of Cordy to 10 ml.

As the overall condition is good, radical excision surgery is also being considered, but we decided to continue with the current treatment.

Seven Weeks After the Start of Treatment

The resected area where the lesion fell off is now completely clean. It might be hard to imagine that there once was a large tumor with its mouth open. The number of nipples has decreased to seven, indicating that treatment has been applied.

The remaining two tumors are showing signs of enlargement and are becoming elevated. According to Dr. Ito’s comments, “It feels as if the body is pushing the cancer cells away.”

After taking this photo, a string was tied at the base of the larger tumor. If successful, it will allow the tumor to fall off naturally again.

10 Weeks After the Start of Treatment

The second tumor, which was tied with a string, also fell off. It took 17 days for it to detach. Although it took more time than the first one, no anesthesia was used, resulting in minimal stress on the body.

A slightly larger detachment wound has formed, but as before, it is planned to treat it by spraying liquid Cordyceps. The wound is expected to heal in about two weeks.

The current supplement intake is 10ml/day. Overall health remains stable.

11 Weeks After the Start of Treatment

The detachment wound is rapidly being covered with normal skin. Dr. Ito, who is overseeing the treatment, is also surprised at how smoothly the recovery is progressing.

The first detachment wound has already completely healed. The pet’s QoL (condition and appetite) remains good.

The progress has been exceedingly favorable to this point, with no signs of resistance or immune depletion often seen with pharmaceuticals and other supplements.

14 Weeks After the Start of Treatment

The second detachment wound is also now covered with normal skin, and the coloration is healthy.

The last remaining tumor is 16mm-17mm in size. Initially, it measured 16.8mm-14.6mm, so in terms of area, it has expanded.

Rather than growing, it seems to be being expelled from the body. If it protrudes more, it might be possible to ligate and detach it using a string.

21 Weeks After the Start of Treatment

The last remaining tumor has gradually shrunk to 10mm-8mm. The cancer no longer seems to be advancing.

X-ray Images

At Initial Examination

Taken in January 2012. X-ray of the chest of the Papillon at the start of treatment. Mammary cancer (mammary tumor) is known to easily metastasize to the lungs. Dr. Ito has identified several suspicious nodular lesions.

Six Months After the Start of Treatment

Taken on June 5, 2012. Six months have passed since the start of treatment. No suspicious lesions are visible.

Description of the Photo
The left side of the image is the head side, and the right side is the tail side. The leg shown is the front leg. The lungs appear dark as they are filled with air. You can see the heart within the lungs.

The heart appears quite large, but in small dog breeds like Papillons, heart enlargement with age is commonly seen. It is not necessarily a cause for concern.

In September 2012, the Papillon passed away peacefully from old age. The photo shows the dog after it had recovered.

Dr. Ito provided the following comments:

“Till the end, the dog kept taking Cordy. I feel that Cordy enabled a true natural death. It was a good passing. The (third) tumor did not change in size at all. I think the immunity boosted by Cordy was able to maintain the condition once the tumor size reduced to some extent.”

At Kamo Animal Hospital, we are exploring ways to treat mammary tumors with minimal burden on animals. In addition to Vitamin C drips, we offer various treatment methods. If you are struggling with cancer treatment in Hiroshima, please consider consulting us.

Examples of Cordyceps Use from Animal Hospitals

This report has been provided by animal hospitals that use Cordyceps. It is published with the approval of the respective animal hospitals.

From Usagi no Byouin Joyjoy

It was reported that a rabbit, after undergoing a hysterectomy for a uterine and ovarian tumor that had metastasized to the lungs, is maintaining good health and is even more energetic than before the surgery. Similarly, there are multiple cases of rabbits with tumors, where although there are no significant changes in blood tests or X-ray examinations, the rabbits are more energetic and have a better appetite compared to before.

We would like to introduce a case where the liver values of dogs and cats with deteriorating liver function significantly improved by administering domestically produced SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) swine-derived placental extract powder. The liver is known as the “silent organ” and even if there is no deterioration in values, domestically produced SPF swine-derived placental extract powder may be effective for pets undergoing treatment with anticancer drugs, steroids, antibiotics, and other medications.

Providing information to support your pet’s health>>

Domestically produced SPF swine-derived placental extract powder is recommended for supporting the health of pets with poor liver function.

The liver is known as the silent organ. Even if symptoms are not clearly apparent, a pet that seems to be less energetic or appears tired might be experiencing liver function decline.

Moreover, most medications including steroids, antibiotics, and anticancer drugs can reduce liver function.

We frequently receive consultations for issues such as decreased energy and appetite, pets on medication for illness, or those with poor liver values in blood tests.

Below are examples of pets with poor liver function who were administered domestically produced SPF swine-derived placental extract powder.

Example 1: Pet with Poor Liver Function

Case of Improved Liver Values during ALT(GTP) Elevation

Animal species: Toy Poodle
Age and Gender: 14 years old, Male
Disease/Symptoms: Decreased liver function, gallbladder removal (cholecystolithiasis)
Provided by: Placenta Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (9th Placenta Clinical Research Association Conference Presentation)

This case was discovered incidentally during an X-ray which found cholecystolithiasis (bile retention) (Figure 1).

A blood test showed elevated liver enzyme levels (ALT) (indicating decreased liver function), so a CT scan was done for symptom confirmation (Figure 1, bottom left). It was judged that there was a risk of rupture if left as is, leading to gallbladder removal surgery.

Post-surgery, liver enzyme levels (ALT) continued to rise, initially falling but then increasing again. Thus, domestically produced SPF swine-derived placental extract powder was mixed into the diet and administered once daily at 0.5g.

As a result, the liver enzyme level was 300U/l at the start of administration, but improved to 70U/l after 3 months of administration (see below).

Providing information to support your pet’s health>>

Example 2: Pet with Poor Liver Function

Improvement from Increased ALT (GTP) and Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)

Animal species: Toy Poodle
Age and Gender: 8 years old, Female
Disease/Symptoms: Decreased liver function, cholecystolithiasis
Provided by: Placenta Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (9th Placenta Clinical Research Association Conference Presentation)

This Toy Poodle had previously undergone treatment for immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, which subsequently worsened the liver condition, causing symptoms of jaundice and decreased energy.

The blood test results at that time (March 11, 2011) showed that both ALT (GTP) and ALP (alkaline phosphatase) levels exceeded the reference values significantly, with bilirubin (TBIL) also being unfavorable (indicating worsening liver function).

An ultrasound was also conducted, considering surgery for suspected gallstones, but a diagnosis of cholecystolithiasis was made.
After diagnosis, the administration of domestic SPF pig-derived placenta extract powder mixed with the diet, at a dose of 0.5g once daily, was initiated.

In addition, “Spacral” was used concurrently, a human medication that promotes bile excretion. One tablet (40mg) was quartered, and a dose of 10mg per day was used.

As early as the fourth day after starting treatment, blood biochemistry test values began to show improvement, and by the end of two months, the values for ALT, ALP, and TBIL had recovered to within normal ranges.

Simultaneously, symptoms of jaundice disappeared, the coat became very shiny, and the animal regained full activity.

Species: Miniature Dachshund
Age & Sex: 12 years old, Male
Disease & Symptoms: Liver tumor, hepatomegaly
Information provided by: Placenta Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

Administered 0.5g of domestic SPF pig-derived placenta extract powder mixed with the diet once daily.
After 16 days of administration, blood tests showed a decrease in liver enzyme ALT (GPT) levels. (*Improvement in liver function)

Providing information to support your pet’s health>>

Case 6: Pet with Poor Liver Function

Reduction in GPT, ALP, TBIL (Total Bilirubin), and Glu (Blood Glucose) levels

Species: Border Collie
Age and Gender: 12 years old
Disease: Liver cancer
Information provided by: Placenta Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

Despite receiving veterinary treatment, the pet’s liver values did not decrease (indicating that liver function was likely impaired due to high liver values), so they began administering Domestic SPF Pig-Derived Placenta Extract Powder. One month after starting the administration of Domestic SPF Pig-Derived Placenta Extract Powder, significant decreases in GPT, ALP, TBIL (Total Bilirubin), and Glu (Blood Glucose) levels were observed.
