Progress with Cordy Usage

August 2018

When their beloved 20-year-old cat was diagnosed with lymphoma and euthanasia was discussed, the eldest son desperately searched the internet for alternatives and started administering Cordy.
About three months later, the cat started to regain energy and stabilize in health. Although the cat stopped eating food mixed with Cordy halfway through the treatment, health remained stable, and the cat celebrated its 21st birthday on the 16th of this month.

July 20, 2019

The owner consulted us about their dog’s liver values, which had not improved after one year of taking Lipocrin, with ALP levels remaining high.
Since one month ago, the owner switched to a completely homemade diet, and TG (triglyceride) levels decreased from 366 in June to 124.
The homemade diet continued, and they started administering domestically produced SPF pig-derived placenta extract, krill oil, and amino acid supplements.
The cat also received steroids and fluids every two days, so they started giving the cat placenta extract and amino acid supplements as well.

Progress

It is clearly visible that the cat has been gaining muscle.

Treatment Progress

– May 25, 2017: Visited due to lethargy, loss of appetite, and vomiting. Prescribed medication for kidney and liver function improvement.
– July 3, 2017: Continued to have poor appetite and vomiting, and blood tests showed abnormal kidney and liver values (BUN 61, Cre 1.99, GOT 590, GPT 3288, ALP 9337), so medication was continued. Also noticed heart murmur and prescribed Apinac.

– July 20, 2017: Visited due to lethargy, loss of appetite, and diarrhea. Prescribed domestic SPF pig-derived placental extract powder.
– August 24, 2017: Good appetite and energy. Medication changed from Apinac to Fortekor Plus.

– September 21, 2017: Stable condition, and blood tests showed improvement.

Skin Improvement Effects of Placenta Extract Powder Derived from Domestically Produced SPF Pigs

The request was to even out the dog’s coat because its skin condition was poor, the hair quality was poor, and it had no body. Unfortunately, the hair was trimmed short with clippers and three months later, the result was as shown in the upper photo, with skin roughness and uneven hair regrowth. It is believed that a hormonal imbalance caused uneven hair growth and skin roughness.

By providing placenta extract powder derived from domestic SPF pigs daily for three months, as shown in the lower photo, the skin condition improved, and the hair grew evenly. The placenta extract powder from domestic SPF pigs is known to have effects that balance hormones, leading to improvements in hair and skin conditions. (It is thought that it improves the balance of pituitary hormones.)

The dog had an unhealed and worsening wound from its time at a pet shop, and the use of placenta extract powder derived from domestic SPF pigs resulted in improvement, prompting a letter of thanks.

At the pet shop, the puppy was bitten by another puppy during play, which introduced hair into the wound.

As the dog grew, pus and hair emerged from the wound, preventing it from healing. Despite surgery to remove the foreign matter, the issue persisted.

About six months later, the wound did not heal again and required a second surgery. Even after this, the wound did not improve, and another veterinary consultation was sought.

At the second surgery, it was found that the sutures from the previous surgery caused further deterioration. The third surgery aimed to remove infected tissue, resulting in an even larger wound.

The dog also developed otitis externa shortly afterwards, further worsening the wound condition due to head shaking and scratching against the floor. This prolonged the unhealed state of the wound for about a year.
Upon encountering domestically-produced SPF pork-derived placenta extract powder and starting its administration, there was no significant change for about two weeks, but around the third week, the discharge and fluid from the wound reduced and the wound began to swell up.

Eventually, the wound closed up cleanly and was completely healed.
Now, the fur has grown back beautifully and the otitis externa has also healed.

A Pet Owner with Dry Skin and Dermatitis

This is a case where a pet owner’s skin condition improved by taking domestically-produced SPF pork-derived placenta extract powder together with their dog.
We received a report from the owner. (*Individual results may vary)

It has been about three years since I started using domestically-produced SPF pork-derived placenta extract powder.

My dog Popo was physically and mentally weak, often suffering from diarrhea, vomiting, and chronic cystitis, visiting the animal hospital almost every month.

Following a recommendation from a veterinarian, I decided to try domestically-produced SPF pork-derived placenta extract powder. I also suffered from autonomic nervous disorder, extremely dry skin to the point of flaking, and facial dermatitis, so I decided to take the placenta extract powder together with Popo.

For about the first six months, I didn’t notice any particular changes, but as I continued, the dry skin improved.

My skin, which had been rough even with layers of lotion and creams, became moisturized with just a toner, even in winter.

Popo’s health also improved significantly, with no more diarrhea or vomiting, and no cystitis episodes for over a year now.

The dermatitis which had been recurring for over two years hasn’t surfaced for more than a year and has healed so cleanly that you can’t even tell it was there.

I believe there’s individual variation in how soon changes can be felt, and I think it’s not something that improves immediately after drinking it. Also, as it’s not particularly cheap, I had some anxiety about continuing, but now looking back…

Both I and Popo have drastically reduced our hospital visits, and we’ve seen definite internal improvements, resulting in naturally moisturized skin and eliminating the need to purchase numerous skincare products. Ultimately, I came to believe it is economical and healthy.

Before using the domestically-produced SPF pork-derived placenta extract powder, the dog showed various symptoms such as allergies and Cushing’s syndrome, always curled its tail, appeared lethargic, and spent most of the day sleeping.
The fur had fallen out, exposing the skin, and the dog often stumbled during walks, requiring extra caution.

After starting the domestically-produced SPF pork-derived placenta extract powder, the dog became noticeably more energetic and its coat grew back thick and healthy, running around actively.
The dog’s expression changed to one of confidence and was no longer lonely.

Case of Maintaining a Cat with Liver Cancer Using Cordy and Placenta

[Liver Tumor: Combined Use of Cordy, C-Kuremin, and Placenta]
Species: Cat
Sex: Female
Age: 14 years and 10 months
Cordy usage period: Since August 23, 2016

Course of Treatment

October 26, 2015: Blood test revealed increased white blood cells, and the condition was monitored.

May 21, 2016: An increase in white blood cells was observed, and a blood smear test on June 11 revealed moderate neutrophilia and moderate non-regenerative anemia.
August 23: Cordy administration started. The cat’s energy and appetite were maintained.

March 27, 2017: The overall condition worsened, and another clinic diagnosed a liver tumor. Continued Cordy administration.
April 3: Energy and appetite returned, and C-Kuremin administration began. Starting from April 22, domestic SPF pig-derived placenta extract was added. The cat currently has an appetite and is maintaining QOL.

[Note from the Laboratory]
When there is a liver disease, energy and appetite often decrease. However, in this case, without aggressive treatments such as chemotherapy, we were able to maintain QOL by administering Cordy and domestic SPF pig-derived placenta extract.

The cat is somewhat elderly, but we hope it can spend its remaining days peacefully for as long as possible.

Effects of Placenta on Skin

Another significant effect of the placenta is the improvement of skin conditions. It can potentially help with not only simple redness and itching, atopic dermatitis, and allergies but also in speeding up the healing of post-surgical wounds and improving bald patches.

Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) and Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)

The skin is divided into three layers: the epidermis, the dermis, and the subcutaneous tissue. FGF acts on the proliferation and regeneration of fibroblasts present in the dermal layer of the skin. Since fibroblasts are involved in the production of skin-related components such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin, stimulating these cells is expected to help maintain healthy skin. Particularly in cases where long-term use of steroids has destroyed fibroblasts and thinned the skin, using this can help normalize the skin.
Additionally, EGF acts on the epidermal layer of the skin, aiding in the growth, repair, and regeneration of the skin. It can help maintain elastic skin and also aid in wound healing. The delayed wound healing due to aging is attributed to a decrease in EGF with age.

Activation of Metabolism

By activating metabolism, the turnover of the skin is promoted. Various growth factors present in the placenta, its blood circulation-promoting effect, and the abundance of amino acids can be expected to promote metabolism.

Anti-Inflammatory Effects

In cases of atopic dermatitis, the decrease in skin moisturizing components results in dry conditions, causing the skin’s barrier function to diminish, allowing allergens to penetrate easily and resulting in inflammation. The anti-inflammatory effect of the placenta can alleviate skin inflammation, thus potentially reducing itching and redness.

Anti-Allergic Effects

It exhibits the effect of suppressing allergic reactions by reducing the production of IgE, which is involved in allergies. Additionally, it contains immunosuppressive substances, which can suppress the excessive functioning of the immune system, thereby expectedly reducing allergic reactions.

Promoting Blood Circulation

Enhancing blood circulation helps deliver nutrients to various regions, ensuring the supply of necessary nutrients and oxygen for skin formation, thus promoting skin regeneration and hair growth. Furthermore, promoting blood circulation is involved in activating metabolism and is related to the excretion of waste products from the body.

Hormonal Balance Regulation

An imbalance in hormones can affect the body in various ways, but regulating this balance is expected to help avoid physical problems.

Suppression of Melanin Production

Melanin pigments are produced in large quantities due to skin inflammation caused by reactive oxygen species. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of the placenta can suppress melanin production. Additionally, the activation of metabolism and blood circulation-promoting effects of the placenta are expected to help excrete melanin pigments and improve hyperpigmentation.

Due to these effects, improvements in skin conditions can be observed.
The turnover cycle of dog and cat skin is said to be 21 days. Maintaining the health of their skin can facilitate smooth turnover, helping to maintain clean skin and coats. Placenta may be beneficial for those pets who have persistent itching or moist dermatitis, those on long-term steroid treatment, or those with poor wound healing after surgery.

Effects of Placenta on the Liver

As discussed in Part 1, placenta can activate liver cells, prevent and remove reactive oxygen species, and has anti-inflammatory effects that can suppress inflammation caused by reactive oxygen species. Therefore, it may be effective in addressing liver dysfunction, hepatitis, and cirrhosis.

Outlined below are the effects useful for improving liver function.

Hepatoprotective Effects

Three factors that support hepatoprotective effects are 1) Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF), 2) Removal of Reactive Oxygen Species, and 3) Anti-inflammatory Effects.
1) HGF promotes the division and proliferation of liver cells and facilitates the breakdown and removal of liver fibrosis.
In cases where hepatitis is present, the function of TGF-β suppresses the secretion of HGF, thereby inhibiting the regeneration of liver cells and promoting liver fibrosis.

However, supplementation of HGF through placenta helps promote the division and proliferation of liver cells while simultaneously suppressing TGF-β, showing the effect of breaking down and removing fibrotic liver tissue.

Placenta also contains TGF-β, which is a crucial element for cell proliferation and differentiation, as well as the formation of fibroblasts necessary for body regeneration. Therefore, having a balanced presence of TGF-β and HGF is considered important.

2) The liver primarily handles metabolism, detoxification, and bile production, but these processes consume a large amount of oxygen, making it prone to the formation of reactive oxygen species. This can lead to oxidative damage to liver cells and a decline in liver function. Placenta can remove these excess reactive oxygen species, thereby protecting liver cells and preventing decreased liver function.

3) Inflammation caused by reactive oxygen species can lead to decreased liver function. If inflammation is prolonged, it may progress to more serious conditions like cirrhosis; therefore, it is crucial to suppress the inflammation early on. Placenta’s anti-inflammatory effects can help prevent the worsening of liver disorders.

Detoxification Effects

The liver detoxifies harmful substances that enter the body through oxidation, reduction, hydrolysis, and conjugation actions, and expels them from the body.
Additionally, the liver also plays a role in detoxifying **ammonia** produced from the proteins ingested through the diet. When liver dysfunction occurs, ammonia can accumulate in the body, potentially causing brain disorders and hepatic encephalopathy.

Supporting liver function with placenta can enhance detoxification, contributing to anti-aging effects within the body. When liver function deteriorates, not only do toxins accumulate more easily, but the detoxification of medications may also be impaired, leading to limitations on the drugs that can be used and concerns about increased side effects. Placenta may be beneficial for pets currently showing liver value deterioration, those under long-term medication, or those about to undergo intensive treatment.

Even if you have heard the term placenta before, you might still have many questions about its effects and what conditions it is suitable for.

In this page, we will introduce the benefits and applicable diseases of placenta.

What is Placenta?

Placenta, translated into Japanese as “胎盤 (taiban)”, particularly refers to the “placental extract” derived from mammalian placenta in Japan. The placenta is responsible for supporting fetal development, and to aid in this function, it contains not just the three major nutrients (protein, lipids, carbohydrates), but also vitamins, minerals, nucleic acids, and oxygen, among many other nutrients.

Apart from these nutrients, it also includes factors that enhance antioxidant capacity, mucopolysaccharides like hyaluronic acid, and numerous growth factors, thus proven effective in improving various conditions.

Types of Placenta

Placenta can be categorized into various types depending on the species of animal from which it is extracted.

① Human Placenta

This type is extracted from human placentas and is recognized as a pharmaceutical product by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan, allowed for use and prescription only in medical institutions. Examples currently in use are “Laennec” for cirrhosis and liver function improvement, and “Melsmon” for menopausal symptoms and lactation insufficiency.

② Bovine Placenta

In the past, placenta derived from cows was also used, but it is now prohibited due to the issue of BSE (mad cow disease).

③ Porcine Placenta

Currently, the majority of placenta available on the market is sourced from pigs. Pigs that are free from specific diseases harmful to their health are called “SPF pigs”. These pigs are raised under strict control, making placenta supplements derived from SPF pigs safe to use.

④ Equine Placenta

Since the placenta is larger, this type contains more amino acids compared to porcine placenta. Horses have a higher basal body temperature than pigs, which is said to reduce the likelihood of parasite infestation, ensuring higher safety. However, with SPF pigs, the risk of parasites can be negated, so there is no need to worry about parasite infections. Although equine placenta is more rare and typically higher priced than porcine placenta, the effectiveness of the supplements can vary depending on the rearing environment of the animals and the extraction and manufacturing methods of the extract, so it is not always possible to say which one is more effective.

Due to the similarity in composition between human placenta and amino acids, it integrates easily with the body and, when used topically, has the advantage of penetrating the skin effectively. Additionally, due to higher immunity compared to pigs, less medication such as vaccines is needed during developmental stages, allowing for the procurement of high-purity placenta. However, due to the impact of BSE, a 2001 directive was issued stating that “placenta from animals close to cattle (ruminants) cannot be used as raw material.” Consequently, current supplies are imports from New Zealand and Switzerland, resulting in limited distribution.

6. Plant Placenta

As previously mentioned, placenta refers to extracts derived from the placenta of mammals. Therefore, it is impossible to extract placenta from plants that lack placentas. The term “plant placenta” is a coined term used for formulations that mimic animal placenta. While they contain vitamins, amino acids, and minerals, they do not include growth factors, making their efficacy in improving pathological conditions uncertain.

Benefits of Placenta

1. Removal of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS)

Reactive oxygen species refer to highly oxidative oxygen molecules; simply put, they are the “body’s rust.” Accumulation of ROS can lead to aging and make one prone to diseases. ROS are produced when oxygen in the body activates to generate energy. While this occurs even during normal daily activities, excessive ROS can be produced due to harmful substances, smoking, stress, mental states such as anger and anxiety, and overeating and drinking. By removing ROS, it’s expected to prevent aging and protect against diseases.

2. Anti-inflammatory Effects

Inflammation is the body’s defense mechanism when exposed to harmful stimuli. However, prolonged or chronic inflammation can cause diseases. A well-known example would be atopic dermatitis or gastric ulcers evolving from gastritis. Interestingly, tumors are also considered a type of chronic inflammation, which is why anti-inflammatory steroids are prescribed during tumor treatment. Placenta has anti-inflammatory properties, making it potentially effective against tumors.

3. Anti-allergic Effects

Generally, allergies can be categorized into two types: “immediate-type allergy,” which occurs when allergens enter the body and bind to mast cells with a component called IgE, and “delayed-type allergy,” which occurs when eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, gather at the site of the allergic reaction a few hours later and release a chemical substance called leukotriene.

Placenta extract has been known to suppress the production of IgE, thereby potentially reducing allergic reactions. Additionally, it contains an abundance of immunosuppressive substances such as vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, gangliosides, and chondroitin sulfate. Together with the suppression of IgE production mentioned earlier, it is expected to help mitigate allergies.

4. Tissue Repair Properties

Placenta extract contains various growth factors that can help repair damaged tissues and restore them to their normal state, potentially alleviating symptoms.

1. Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF)
Not only does it promote tissue regeneration in the liver but also in most organs, facilitating the repair of pathological lesions.

2. Nerve Growth Factor (NGF)
It promotes the differentiation of nerve cells and repairs damaged areas. It is considered effective in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease by restoring brain nervous system functions. Moreover, it regulates the autonomic nervous system and hormonal balances, potentially stabilizing mental states and alleviating symptoms of depression and menopausal disorders.

3. Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF)
It increases fibroblasts and vascular endothelial cells, which are components of the dermis, the basis of skin structure. By boosting collagen (a component that maintains skin firmness), elastin (a component that maintains skin elasticity), and hyaluronic acid (a component that retains skin moisture), it normalizes the skin and promotes wound healing. It is also involved in nerve formation, hence expected to maintain brain functions. Furthermore, by promoting the proliferation of hair matrix cells, it is anticipated to aid in hair growth.

4. Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)
It promotes the proliferation and regeneration of the skin and corneal layers of the eye. Acting on the epidermal layer of the skin, it accelerates turnover and, along with the aforementioned FGF, promotes wound healing, improves spots and dullness, and stimulates collagen production within the dermis.

5. Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF)
It stimulates the action of IGF-1, which regulates cell growth and DNA synthesis. By acting on chondrocytes, it is expected to relieve joint pain. It is also said to be effective for hair growth.

6. Transforming Growth Factor (TGF)
The TGF-β factor acts on epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells to promote wound healing. It also increases osteoblasts, which are crucial for bone formation, and inhibits osteoclasts, which destroy bones, thereby reducing bone resorption.

7. Colony Stimulating Factors (CSF)
By acting on the stem cells of granulocytes and macrophages, which are involved in immunity, it promotes the maturation of these cells.

8. Interleukins (IL)
These are components involved in immunity and are produced by white blood cells. Since they help maintain the action of enhancing immune strength, they are useful in immunostimulation.

5. Metabolic Activation

The cellular activation effect of placenta extract is expected to enhance metabolic activity by promoting blood circulation within the body. Since placenta extract is rich in high-quality amino acids, fats are more easily burned, and muscle fatigue is less likely to persist.

6. Immunostimulating Effect

Immunity is a defense mechanism that protects the body from bacteria and viruses, comprising natural immunity and acquired immunity. Placenta extract stabilizes NK cells involved in natural immunity and enhances the production of cytokines and antibodies involved in acquired immunity, thus expected to modulate immune strength and increase resistance.
